COMPETITION SIGN UP QUESTIONSQ. What type of Competition should I start?
A. The Competition Arenas you can create are very similar and so the one you choose depends on 1 question;
Q. Should I do Belly to Belly, or Team against Team?1) do you want a Belly to Belly competition or a Team against Team competition? Once you answer this question any arena you select will work. Here is a quick break down of each arena: a. Corporate: Choose this Arena if you are a business manager and want to host a weight loss competition at work among your employees. b. family/friends: Choose this arena to compete against a number of your friends or family. c. Partner/Spouse: Choose this arena to compete against 1 other person or against 1 pair (i.e. you and your spouse competing against your brother and his spouse).
A. The term Belly to Belly simply means that every competitor is competing
against every other competitor. Many of our clients enjoy this format
because they can just worry about themselves. Team against Team is where 2 or more teams compete
against each other. You can select how many you want on each team
there is no limit. In the Team verse Team format your combined success in weight loss
is what determines who wins. Many of our clients enjoy this format
because they have team mates to encourage and motivate them.
Q. What should I set as the award?
A. Set what you want. "Each competitor donates" requires a contribution, that you specify, by each competitor at the end of the competition. This is donated to the winner, by all his competitors. You could put, as the award, "I will supply the prize" and so the entire award is donated by you. Or you could select "Other" and pick any award and style that you want.
Q. If I choose "Each Competitor Donates" how much money should I put as the award contribution?
A. Put an amount for the award high enough to motivate you in your weight loss. It can be any amount but should be large enough to motivate you not to lose it! Remember this amount is what each competitor will need to contribute at the end of the competition in order to participate.
Q. How does the winner get the Award?
A. Each competition has its own reward or incentive. Some groups give a cash award, while other groups supply babysitting, or movie tickets. Whatever reward your group decides is what each participant has agreed to contribute. When the winner is decided each competitor should provide their part of the reward. Ultimately it is up to the winner to collect his/her reward.
Q. Does the whole Award go to the winner?
A. Distributing the award is up to each participant of the competition (if the competition is a "Each competitor donates.") If "I will supply the Prize," or "Other" was selected then the creator of the competition is responsible for the distribution of the award.
Q. Which Final Judging method is the best?
A. There are two Judging methods to choose from. Total Weight Lost, and % of Body Weight Lost. % of Body Weight Lost is more fair since it accounts for the differences found in gender and body type and size.
Q. How is the winner chosen?
A. You choose which method, Total Weight Lost, or % of Body Weight Lost, to determine the winner. Based on what each competitor enters for the beginning and ending weights, and the judging selection you selected WeightLossWars will calculate a winner at the end of the competition.
Q. How long should the competition be?
A. A competition can be as short, or as long as you want. However a longer competition allows the development of healthy habits, and eliminates those dieters who can lose a lot of weight fast. Make it long enough so the winner deserves the reward they get. A typical length is between 3 and 9 months
Q. What if no one wants to challenge me?
A. If you have sent you letter to everyone you know and no one will challenge you then you are out of luck! One thing you can do is talk to your employer to get them interested in starting one at work.
Q. No one has responded to my challenge letter, what should I do?
A. WeightLossWars resends you letter to all those that haven't responded within one week of when you invited them. If they still don't respond chances are that their invitation is going into their junk email folder. Try calling or sending them a normal email to make them aware of your invitation.
Q. Can I change the Award amount?
A. Sorry, once you have sent the invitation letter you cannot change the award amount.
Q. Can I change the judging method?
A. You can change the judging method after the competition has started. Simply send an email requesting the change to customerservice@weightlosswars.com and we can change it for you.
Q. Can I change the length of the competition?
A. YES. You can change the length of the competition within the first 2 weeks. Simply send an email requesting the change to customerservice@weightlosswars.com.
Q. How much does this cost?
A. While being a member of WeightLossWars is FREE, to participate in a competition there is a one time $9.95 participation fee per competitor. We have found that competitions are more successful when each competitor has put a "little money down."
COMPETITION QUESTIONSQ. How is the scoring calculated?
A. This depends on what the scoring method is.
Q. My weight loss is incorrect! Why?If the scoring method is based on a totals-type category, where the winner has the largest (or smallest) sum of one category (such as minutes or distance exercise), then the totals are simply calculated on all entries you placed between (or on) the start date and the end date of the competition. If the competition is based on weight (weight lost or percentage weight lost), the site uses the earliest weight entry for you on or after the start date of the competition. This number is subracted by the weight entry nearest, but not after the competition end date to calculate your weight lost for the competition. The site does not use any weight entries before the start date of the competition as your start weight because it will not assume that your weight was consistent between that time and the start of the competition. We recommend weighing yourself on the starting date of the competition (or as soon as possible after it begins) and making that entry in your weight loss journal.
A. There are many possible reasons for this, but the most common is covered above in "How is the scoring calculated?".
It is also possible that you have entered incorrect data, or incorrectly calculated what you think your loss should be; please be careful to make sure your weight loss is indeed incorrectly calculated in a competition before contacting us for help. Another reason your weight loss might not seem correct is that the competition calculation has been cached and has not been updated since you saved entries in your weight loss journal. Please note the "as of MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM A" time at the top of your leader board. Some competitions are only updated manually when the competition creator or a site administrator requests a calculation update. If your competition is considerably out of date, try contacting the creator of the competition, or contact us and let us know. COMPLETING THE COMPETITIONQ. How is the winner chosen?
A. You choose which method, Total Weight Lost, or % of Body Weight Lost, to determine the winner. Based on what each competitor enters for the beginning and ending weights, and the judging selection you selected WeightLossWars will calculate a winner at the end of the competition. .
Q. How do I get my winnings?
A. Once a competition is finished WeightLossWars immediately calculates the winner. You are responsible to follow the award arrangements you made with your competitors.
Q. What should I do if I think the winner has cheated?
A. It is your responsibility to talk with those you suspect are cheating. If there is a dispute the money can be sent to the person who started the competition to divide the pot as he sees fit.
Q. How are my items shipped?
A. WeightLossWars uses UPS to ship its products. All shipping costs are paid for by the consumer at checkout.
